The Challenge

A heavy fabrication shop with 12 active welding stations was struggling with poor air quality and weld fume exposure. An industrial hygiene assessment identified elevated airborne particulate levels, and OSHA compliance concerns were mounting. The shop needed a centralized fume extraction system that would capture welding fumes at the source across all 12 stations and reduce airborne exposure to meet OSHA permissible exposure limits.

Our Solution

Hudson designed and installed a complete centralized fume extraction system. We designed the system with 12 source capture hoods and flex-arm pickup points. We fabricated 800 linear feet of main and branch ductwork and installed it overhead to keep floor space clear. The system was balanced and shop personnel were trained on operation.

Results

Air monitoring showed airborne particulate levels well below OSHA PELs. Shop welders reported noticeable improvement in air quality. The system addressed OSHA concerns and provided compliance documentation.
