Access Platform & Stair System – Process Line Upgrade
The Challenge
A chemical processing plant upgraded process equipment on an elevated mezzanine level, creating new access requirements for operators and maintenance personnel. The existing access—a non-compliant ladder—was flagged by an OSHA inspection and needed to be replaced with code-compliant stairs and platforms. The client needed a contractor who could handle both the structural engineering and the fabrication/installation.
Our Solution
Hudson provided a complete design-build platform and stair system. We site-measured existing conditions and designed the platform structure and stair system to meet OSHA and IBC requirements, providing PE-stamped structural drawings and calculations. We fabricated structural platform framing, decking, guardrails, stair stringers, treads, and handrails. Installation was completed during scheduled downtime with minimal disruption to plant operations.
Results
OSHA compliance achieved: the new access system met all regulations, resolving the safety citation. Safe, code-compliant access to equipment for operation and maintenance. PE-stamped drawings and successful inspections provided the compliance documentation the client needed.
